it happened: the leica m8

so for those of you that saw me going crazy, ecstatic, and well, happy.....you probably found out that my parents bought me a new camera. not any ol' camera, but a leica. not any leica, but the m8.

i don't even know what to say about this but i'm just in awe. first, those of you reading this...(dave is spoiled once again) you are totally right. no denial of that and i wholly agree that i don't deserve it.

but now that i have it....i should probably lock myself up and re-learn everything that i thought i knew. and well...impress my parents with what they just bought me.

as martin put it, it is the "patek phillipe" of cameras. hopefully my son won't use a crazy computer without a usb cable in the future.

well...first impressions.

well, it looks like a small camera, but there are many things packed into this little tank.

so the first problem i have to get used to is....well focusing.

sounds stupid but as it turns out, the whole m system, leica's flagship line depends on good ol' retro manual focusing. while the metering and shutter speed is automatic, the rest of the camera is truly a manual camera in a digital body.

here are some pictures i initially took under a low light setting.

my best focus yet.

currently, i'm using a leica summarit 35mm lens. when converting to the m8, it turns into a 50mm

you will notice that the light metering is superb under the low light setting with very little noise but my focusing is what's messing everything up..

you can see here on the bottom picture that although the focus is on john, i'm still not perfectly focused on his face.

higher resolution pictures after the jump.

more practicin' now
